Celebrating Spring
Spring in North Carolina feels like a festival in of itself between the burst of blue birds and the yellow jessamine blooms. It’s also the start of festival season in North Carolina–the perfect time to shake off winter slumber and enjoy local culture.
One of Brunswick’s largest spring festivals, Oak Island Spring Fling Market and Music is just as cute as it sounds. It’s free and open to the public and just a quick drive from the Home Place of Southport.
Held each year in the spacious Middleton Park in Oak Island, the festival brings together local artisans, many of whom specialize in coastal design, with live music. For 2023, the festival will be held on Saturday March 25.
The market is open from 11am to 4pm and boasts wine glasses etched by hand, wooden sculptures, ceramic sea creatures, beaded jewelry and handcrafted wooden beach chairs and tables–just to name a few of the booths onsite. The market also includes a kidzone with inflatables and games for kids, grand-kids, and the young-at-heart.
The Perfect Afternoon
And there you have it: the perfect afternoon strolling hand-in-hand between the booths to breath in the salty breeze and enjoy your favorite festival treats under the beautiful canopies of live oaks.
After the market, you can expect a lively evening concert by Parlay from 6-8pm–so make sure to bring some lawn chairs! A local four piece band that plays music from the 80’s, 90’s, and 2000’s, you can expect to be Walkin’ on Sunshine by the end of the show.

The Azalea Festival is a nationally recognized celebration with a mix of free and ticketed events including juried art shows, tours of local gardens, live concerts, the azalea parade, and a scholarship pageant.

- May 5-6th, 2023: Carolina Strawberry Festival
Featuring the best fresh strawberries of the season, this festival is pure hometown fun with live music, a Little Miss Strawberry pageant, amusement park rides, cook-offs, and a fire truck show.
