Spring is in the air, which means it’s the perfect time to start exploring all the beautiful greenspaces that Southport has to offer. Just a stone’s throw from the Home Place of Southport with 23 acres of room to enjoy, Smithville District Park is a wonderful amenity Southport offers to enjoy the outdoors with everyone you love.
Smithville District Park has the active adult in mind, from outdoor workout equipment (get those reps in while listening for your favorite coastal birds!) to well-kept courts and sports fields. Try out that Pickleball everyone’s been talking about or meet up with friends for tennis or a game of horse on the basketball court. The park also features two baseball fields and a soccer field.
For folks looking to relax in the gentle spring breeze, Smithville District Park has two picnic shelters that are also great for outdoor gatherings. With open space, mature trees, and (thank God) pristine restrooms, the park is perfect for an afternoon in the sun. If you forgot a snack, the park also has a concession stand that is open for sports events.
Everyone is Welcome
When we say “everyone you love” we mean furry friends too. Smithville District Park is known as one of the go-to places in Southport for dog walks (and perhaps even a leashed cat stroll, if your feline friend is feeling adventurous). Your furry friends will enjoy the new sites and smells of this lovely park. Make sure to be on the lookout for doggie play-date potential.
Got family in town (you live on the coast–so that’s a given!), the park’s colorful playgrounds sets, divided by age, are the best place for little ones to get their wiggles out. The merry-go-round is a kid favorite while the poured-rubber play-yard gives everyone peace of mind. The playground also features an accessible wheelchair swing so that everyone can enjoy!
