In fact, movies filmed in Southport include several well-known flicks such as Firestarter (1984), Crimes of The Heart (1987), Weekend at Bernies (1989), A Walk to Remember (2002), and I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997). TV series include The Water is Wide (2006), Revenge (2011), Under the Dome (2013-2015), and Matlock (1986 – 1985). Hollywood is quoted as naming Southport one of their “finest filming locations.” Likewise, when you consider that movies and Television shows are filmed all over the country, that’s saying something. The Problem with Providence
Now, there’s a brand-new production taking place in this beautiful town, and it’s called The Problem with Providence. This is a small feature that will take one month to film but features Hollywood stars like Lily James and Joseph Gordon-Levitt! Several locations around the town of Southport are set to be featured here. This includes the Southport Ferry Terminal, Bald Head Island Ferry, Mullet Bar, Old Smithville Cemetery, Potter’s Seafood, and the Riverside Motel. In just the first half of this year (2022), this is the second major production filmed here in Southport. Everyone is excited about it.
