Timeless and Uncrowded
Welcome to Oak Island
Situated within 10 minutes of The Home Place of Southport, Oak Island offers nearly 20 miles of coastline with pristine white sand beaches, and vast ocean views. A quiet, family-friendly beach reminiscent of vacations you took as a child, the peaceful beach offers plenty of room for your blanket as well as a wide variety of activities to fill your day.
The beach of Oak Island offers plenty of entertainment. Lounge in your beach chair with a good book, catch a couple of waves on your surfboard, or stroll the shores looking for shells such as cockles, whelks, and augers. Appreciate beautiful sunsets as they paint the skies in pinks and oranges or come out at dusk to search for ghost crabs with a flashlight. Your furry friend can enjoy time in the sand as well! Pets are welcome year-round on Oak Island and allowed off-leash from October 15 – March 15.
Water Activities and More
Take to the water where more fun is to be had with a paddling excursion on a paddleboard or kayak. The island offers Intracoastal waterways, salt marshes, and brackish creeks to explore. Meander through the water observing local wildlife. A variety of fish can be spotted below, fiddler crabs dot the banks and birds travel above including osprey, herons, ibises, and terns. Oak Island is also a top local destination for fishing. The Oak Island Pier and the Crystal Crest Pier are popular with locals and visitors alike. Cast your rod and try your luck as King Mackerel, Red Drum, Pompano, and Sheepshead frequent the area.
If you’re in search of a good meal after a day of beach fun, you’re in luck! Oak Island is home to several great restaurants serving fresh local seafood, Southern-style cuisine, or even a good old fashion hot dog. For a fine dining experience, Island Way offers the highest quality steaks and seafood with beautiful ocean views; the perfect place for date night to enjoy a cocktail at sunset and devour a delicious meal. However, if you are looking for something a little more casual, Bar-B-Que House is a local favorite, offering classic east Carolina style barbeque, grilled chicken, and brisket. The sides are comforting and delicious, such as fried okra and mac-n-cheese.
